Superminds  for Superhumans

Building mental health resilience in Ukrainian amputees and their families.

Empowering those injured in war to regain their mental strength and rebuild their communities.

Superminds for Superhumans ("Superminds") is a Canadian-founded humanitarian mental health initiative co-designed and developed with global mental health experts and Ukraine's Superhumans Center.

Superminds' mission is to create and support the delivery of a leading, free, and evidence-based mental health and community resiliency program for Ukrainians who have experienced amputation and physical rehabilitation due to war injuries, while also supporting their families and communities.

“After losing my legs, I was very despondent and depressed. It felt like my life was over, and that I was no longer needed by anyone except my family. But as soon as I got my legs (prosthetics) and learned to walk on them, I realized that life goes on. After being fitted with prosthetics and undergoing rehabilitation at Superhumans, I began traveling around Ukraine, and now I want to travel the world. I need time to listen to myself and understand what I want to do.”

Maksym Haisha, 21 years old, military veteran

There is an urgent need for mental health support in Ukraine.

Tens of thousands of Ukrainians have suffered life-changing injuries, wounded on the battlefield and on the street. Those impacted physically will need prosthetics and rehabilitation. They will also need mental health support and services for many years to come. These injuries challenge those directly impacted, as well as their loved ones and communities.

With an estimated 40% of Ukrainian territory still containing life-threatening land mines, local health services are not able to meet the mental health needs this war continues to cause. They are asking for support from the international community and we are proud to be a partner working to meet some of these needs.
